Hi, I’m Gift Kyansimire Oroni, but I create under the name ZORDFILES. I’m an illustrator, writer, and director based in Nairobi, Kenya, a city that pretty much raised my imagination. Nairobi shapes how I see the world, how I tell stories, and how I draw people. Most of my work is a love letter to the city I call home and to African stories that feel lived, in, funny, messy, and honest.
I work across film and books, telling visual stories in many forms, but I have a soft spot for stopmotion. I’ve made two stopmotion films so far, and I’m constantly looking for new ways to push the medium. Along the way, I also do visual note-taking, build story-driven brands, develop concepts, and illustrate worlds that feel a little too real.
I care a lot about teaching and mentorship, especially for kids. When I’m not working, you’ll probably find me volunteering at a school, trying to help grow the next generation of visual storytellers.
One day, I hope to retire in a village and spend my time making picture books for children. Until then, I’m currently working on two illustrated books: How to Survive in Nairobi With Your Girlfriend and My Hair Is Rough and Strong.
I also love soft chapatis and tea.
Feel free to reach out for work.
